Outlook Web - Setting up your mailbox for first time use
Upon first login to https://outlook.office.com, you will need to complete some basic steps. This guide will take you through setting up your email signature, setting the time zone, and modifying the layout of the mailbox.
NOTE: You will also need to complete these settings in your shared mailbox
Email Signature
- From Office.com, open Outlook Web from the App Launcher or navigate directly to https://outlook.office.com
- In Outlook, select the Settings gear from the top right menu
- Navigate to Mail à Compose and reply
- Setup Email signatures, select the Default signature, and check Always show From
- Click Save at the bottom of the window when you are done

Time Zone
- Open the Outlook settings by clicking the gear icon in the top right menu
- Navigate to General à Language and time
- Click Change next to the current time zone
- Set the correct time zone, and if prompted, click Yes, update to update meeting hours to match the preferred time zone
Mailbox Layout
If the default view is not ideal, you can customize the settings in numerous ways to suit your preferences. The following are settings that will help you get started.
Begin by accessing the View menu from the top of Outlook Web. Then use the following settings to customize the mailbox layout.

- View settings – Opens the Outlook settings to the Layout menu and enables in-depth customization
- Messages – Allows you to hide the message preview and set message grouping by conversation
- Layout – Allows changing the Folder Pane and Reading Pane visibility and location
- Density – Allows you to reduce the excess space in between messages
